Getting Unconscious Feeding Under Control

Written by: Michelle Belanger

All true psi-vamps that I have encountered unconsciously perform a constant, low-level energy drain. Psi-vamps seem to fulfill a function of the negative aspect of the Universal flow, and as such, taking energy seems to be part of how a psi-vamp naturally interacts with the environment around them. For the most part, the energy that is taken is ambient energy. Ambient energy is not taken directly from a target but generally from the psi-vampís surroundings. However, people who come into close proximity with the psi-vamp, and people who make an energetic connection to the psi-vamp, can become included in this constant drain.

A psi-vamp can unconsciously initiate contact with a physical touch. A psi-vamp can also unconsciously initiate contact by engaging someone in conversation. When the attention of others is for some reason focused on them, a psi-vamp can also connect and unconsciously feed.

When a psi-vamp is in an environment where the targets of such feeding may notice and be offended by the action, this can create embarrassing situations. There are also situations in which it is undesirable to take in the ambient energy of a location because this may have unwanted effects on how the psi-vamp functions and feels.

When I was first learning and mastering what I was, I noticed this constant energy drain and took measures to counteract it. There were certainly times when I did not want to walk through a crowd and vicariously feel everything the people of that crowd were feeling simply because I was taking in their energy.

To stop unconscious feeding, it is first necessary to understand the mechanics at work behind our feeding techniques. Although we function essentially as energetic black holes, in order to take energy from our environments, we must first extend some energy of our own.

For example, we do not just suck ambient energy up like a hoover. We are actually extending tiny tendrils and fans of our own energy all around us and collecting ambient energy as if through a satellite dish or a solar array. When we take energy directly from other people, that initial connection is made when a portion of our energy extends to them and latches onto their subtle body. Thus, to prevent us from unconsciously feeding, we need to harness techniques that help us keep our energy to ourselves.

Donning Your Armor
Shielding is one way to prevent us from taking the energies of others in. However, it is not always easy for a psi-vamp to shield. It is natural to us to want to reach out and interact constantly with our environment, and may psi-vamps find shielding techniques make them feel weighted down or suffocated. To be honest, I can get downright claustrophobic in shields.

To get around this, I developed several tools that helped me achieve the effect of shielding without lengthy meditations or complicated visualization techniques that locked some energy construct around my subtle body. Most of these relied on simple psychological cues that indicated to me I was closed off from the energy around me, and they functioned on the principle that what keeps energy out also keeps energy in.

For example, when I went to the mall as a teenager, and I did not want to interact with the energy of everything around me, I would wear a particular leather coat as well as a pair of leather gloves. Of course, these were black and fashionable, but the attire had everything to do with function.

The leather coat symbolized my armor. When I donned it, it covered me both physically and energetically, thus keeping my energy in and preventing outside energies from connecting to me. The gloves were added because my hands serve as a powerful focus for taking energy. I would wear the gloves to prevent me from unconsciously making connections to people, whether through touch or over a distance. The gloves also prevented me from picking up energy from every object that I handled, a side effect of my vampirism that could lead to strong and sometimes disturbing impressions.

What are the mechanics behind this simple technique? As you know, energy can easily pass through most material objects, and so the gloves and jacket themselves were not really blocking energy in a physical sense. Instead, they served as conceptual barriers between me and my environment. They provided an extra layer of separation between me and everything around me, making it easier for me to hold my energy in and keep all other energy out. This was especially useful in the days before I had really gotten my empathy under control, so I wasnít constantly getting tossed in an emotional sea every time I ventured out into a crowd.

Closing the Circuit
Another technique that worked to prevent me from constantly taking energy in, was originally intended to protect someone from having their energy taken away. This came from a New Age book on psychic self-defense. The technique was presented for those people who go out into crowds and unconsciously spill energy all over the place. My mother is a person like this. A natural giver, whenever she is surrounded by people, it drains her of energy because everything automatically flows out.

A psi-vamp is just the opposite of a giver - instead of everything flowing out, when we go out into a crowd, everything flows in. But despite the fact that these two effects are polar opposites of one another, they are simply two aspects of the same process. So it made sense to me that if this technique worked to keep a person of being drained of energy, it would also work to prevent me from doing the draining.

Itís really quite simple. It functions on the principle of closing a circuit. When you feel that you are reaching out to the energy around you and beginning to pull it all in, simply clasp your hands in front of you and hold them close to the point of your solar plexus, just beneath your ribs. I lock the fingers of one hand over the other, and as I do so, I think about the energy of both hands locking and interlinking, so the flow of energy is limited to my body alone, and there is no interaction with the outside environment.

Crossing your arms upon your chest can work with the same principle. Especially if you lock your hands around your elbows, crossing your arms upon your chest keeps your energy in. For us, that also means it keeps other energies out. If we keep our energy to ourselves, then weíre not as likely to be constantly pulling on everything around us.

Given time and practice, these techniques can become second-nature, so whenever you go out into a large crowd, or you find yourself in a situation where you need to strictly control your feeding to avoid offending others, you will be able to reign yourself in with a simple gesture or a thought.
